The RF deck was in fantastic shape when I picked it up but the power supply was missing. A friend knew someone that had a power supply (not original) that he was looking to get rid of so I snatched it up for a VERY good price. The supply is much more robust than the original and supplies the amp with 3,500 volts as opposed to the 2,600 volts the original one provides. It also weighs in at 100 lbs so putting wheels under it was a must. The original supply is much smaller and weighs 42 lbs. I run the amp. The new supply is also capable of supplying more current than the original. For the most part the amp is used on AM with my FT-101E. I usually run it at 250 - 300 watts of carrier on AM. As the Drake amps had no biasing, which was okay at 2,500 volts, the higher plate voltage required some biasing be added to bring down the idling current. A string of ten 3 A, 1000 PIV diodes in series on the cathodes of the 3-500Zs did the trick.
